Grand Rapids is an unsuspecting hot spot for thrift stores. Secondhand shopping is one of, if not my absolute favorite things to do in this city. This is a small list of my favorites but the list goes on and on. Include larger chain stores such as Goodwill and Salvation Army and you’ve got around 50 thrift stores in the greater Grand Rapids area.
There is no thrift shortage here! Whether you’re trying to shop on a budget, looking for more sustainable ways to shop, or just like the thrill of the hunt, this is the guide for you.

GR’s Must-Visit Thrift Stores
Westside Apostolate
📍 1630 Leonard St NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504
🛍️ Clothing $ | Housewares $ – $$
Starting off with my personal favorite and most frequented thrift store, Westside Apostolate. Oh, the treasure hunt! The racks are so packed at times, it takes a bit of endurance to sift through them all, but trust me it’s worth it. This humble little thrift store is sprinkled with hidden gems. I rarely leave without a “find of the day”.
Best part? Almost all of the clothing is 50 cents except a few racks of special items which may be 1 or 2 dollars a piece.
This spot definitely boasts a “thrift store aroma” and this is not the place to thrift if you’re looking for neat, organized, color coded racks and shelves. However, that’s what makes this place the treasure trove it is! the longer you’re in there, the more you find. The ladies who run this place are a hoot and incredibly kind. They are part of the reason I love it so much.
Pro Tip: Be sure to stop at the ATM before visiting, because this thrift store is cash only.
Nice Twice
📍 2852 28th St SW, Grandville, MI 49418
🛍️ Clothing $$ – $$$ | Housewares $ – $$
Mirror, Mirror on the wall. Who’s the cleanest of them all? This nice, quiet, well organized thrift store is the champagne of thrifting. If Grand Rapids thrift shops had superlatives, they’d win first place for being clean and organized. It’s like thrifting on easy mode.
Quiet piano music plays just a bit louder than the calming whir of the HVAC fans in the ceiling. There is a pleasant smell, and sweet, smiling ladies with white hair behind the counter. There are no giant fluorescent lights beaming into your eyes, just the sight of color coded, neat aisles of clothing and wares.
Their marquee sign outside displays their weekly sales. Sometimes 50% off housewares, sometimes a discount on any item that “plugs into a wall”, or a discount on their boutique area. They run great weekly sales that make Nice Twice worth the stop.
I would recommend this place to anyone looking to find shoes. They seem to have a good shoe selection here, I’ve gotten many pairs myself from Nice Twice! As well as clothing, their houseware and furniture selections never miss.
If you’re new to thrifting, this is the place to start.
Regenerate Thrift Shop
📍 4390 Chicago Dr SW, Wyoming, MI 49418
🛍️ Clothing $$ | Housewares $ – $$
I’d call it a boutique before I call it a thrift store. Not because of the prices (which are amazing by the way) but because it feels curated! This is another place that seems like thrifting on easy mode.
Whenever I walk into Regenerate, my feet take me straight to the back where there is always, without fail, a beautiful selection of vintage glassware. If you’ve got a bar cart at home you’re looking to dress up, check out Regenerate.
This is on the smaller side of thrift stores, but in my opinion, that makes it feel much more accessible and less overwhelming as some thrift stores can tend to feel.
The staff here are lovely and inviting. Just another perk of visiting.
This is a great place for:
- A quiet and relaxed shopping experience
- Secondhand craft supplies
- Glassware
- Vintage Clothing
Goodwill Bins
📍 3035 Prairie St SW, Grandville, MI 49418
🛍️ Clothing $ | Housewares $
While I generally avoid Goodwills out of personal preference, I frequent the Goodwill bins. This is more of an outlet than a thrift store but I dare anyone willing to brave this place!
Here’s how it works: Every hour, giant tables (the employees call them tables, most shoppers call them “bins”) full of clothing and home goods are rolled out of a warehouse to take the place of bins that have been sitting on the sales floor for a while. When the new caravan of bins starts to come out, all shoppers must wait for the entire section to be fully turned over with new bins before the employees shout out a hearty “go ahead!”
I can only describe this experience as primitive. If you find yourself there on a Friday morning next to the freshly rolled out bins the moment an employee gives the go-ahead, don’t be surprised to be pushed, shoved, and sometimes have items ripped from your hands.
Eh, maybe I’m not selling this place so well. I’ll tell you how I brave the bins.
I personally like to shop around the sections of bins that have been out for a while. You will generally be able to have some space to yourself to sort through what’s in front of you. A lot of people leave around 4 pm, so it’s much quieter in the evening. This is my favorite time to go!
The biggest perk of this place is that after tax, you end up paying less than $2/lb for whatever you throw in your cart. That’s right, you place your items on a scale and pay by the pound.
Larger, heavy items and furniture usually range between 2-8 dollars flat fee. If you’re curious about what an item might cost, the employees here are helpful, knowledgeable and in my experience, happy to answer questions.
It can be loud, it’s dirty, it’s chaotic. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t find some of my best-of-all-time finds there. Bring gloves. This place is not for the weak of heart.
Helping Hands Mission Thrift
📍 1008 Leonard St NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504
🛍️ Clothing $$ – $$$ | Housewares $ – $$
For vintage lovers, Helping Hands is a dream.
Helping Hands has hands-down (pun intended) the widest and best selection of not just vintage but also size inclusive vintage in Grand Rapids as far as thrift stores go. The prices are reasonable, there is a shop cat named Secondhand Sam and above all, the owner deserves a special shout-out. Mindy has created an inclusive, inviting space for people in all walks of life. You will enter as a stranger and leave as a friend. There is much more to be said about her work in the community, but I will say this – if you’re looking to support a business that invests in its neighborhood, Helping Hands is what you’re looking for.
The sales floor itself is massive and you can be almost certain you’ll score some finds during your visit. Pieces in here range from the 1960s to modern day and if you can’t find what you’re looking for – ask an employee! They will be happy to help.
Rustic Market
📍 389 68th St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49548
🛍️ Clothing $$ – $$$ | Housewares $ – $$
While Rustic Market is full of goodies at fantastic prices, my favorite thing about it is that they’re open until 9 PM. This is a great stop at the end of a stressful day when you just need a little sustainable, second-hand retail therapy. A recent remodel within the last couple years has rendered Rustic Market an accessible, tidy, well organized thrift store.
They run great sales, and the best of those being their jewelry sales. I don’t know if it’s just me, but this place always has exactly the piece of jewelry I’m looking for. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc… Perhaps they just receive more jewelry than other surrounding thrift stores because as well as having a big selection – it seems to be on sale very often!
Something quirky and cool awaits you in the aisles of Rustic Market. Check it out and see for yourself!
Revive
📍 3675 Baldwin St, Hudsonville, MI 49426
🛍️ Clothing $$$ | Housewares $ – $$
Revive in Jenison is a one stop shop. Clothing. House wares. Furniture. Office supplies. Craft supplies. Neat walkable aisles and the best sales around. Their regular prices are reasonable but I feel like I’m going to get handcuffed every time I walk out of this place during a sale. Their seasonal markdowns and monthly sales are out of this world.
It’s not uncommon to leave Revive with unique, quality pieces for the home and wardrobe. Whoever is donating to Revive, they’re definitely dropping off some good pieces.
Revive is a particularly great spot for home goods. You won’t be bringing any dust home from this thrift store as every item put on the shelves is nice and clean.
A great thrift store for starters.
